Dogs, like humans, can experience swelling and decreased immunity when lymph flow is stagnant. To help reduce swelling, it’s recommended to massage the five main lymph nodes:
- Open the lymphatic exit at the front of the left shoulder blade.
- Stroke from the base of the lower jaw toward the ear, guiding the lymph toward the neck and shoulder.
- Massage the axillary lymph nodes located at the base of the front legs.
- Gently rub the inguinal lymph nodes at the base of the hind legs.
- Lightly massage the popliteal lymph nodes behind the knee.
Aim for 6 to 10 repetitions per massage. If your dog resists, proceed gently without forcing. This massage can improve your dog’s mood and strengthen the bond between you and your pet.
