With experience, a dog’s behavior and reactions change. Dogs that were sensitive to sounds or avoided certain foods in their youth may become more calm as they age. Preferences in food can also shift with age; some dogs become open to trying new foods, while others only accept what they’re used to. In their senior years, the decline in physical strength and sensory functions often makes them less reactive to things they once disliked, partly due to the deepening bond of trust with their human companions. Experienced dogs tend to become calmer and show more mature behavior.
